About Dorian

Dorian Whitfield came to art from behind the wheel of a taxi. A midnight fare to the Virginia Museum in 2015 left Whitfield sitting outside for two hours, deep in thought. That fall, the artist started evening classes while still driving days. Today Whitfield works in Richmond, Virginia, with an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University.

The work is abstract with an expressionist streak, built around black, silver, brown and beige. City textures and late-night talks with passengers feed into it. Expect spiraling geometric ribbons, curves of black and gray lit by gold, starbursts of torn metallic petals and blush pink swirls marbled with gold. Whitfield’s best sellers come next, each printed on matte canvas and ready to hang.
