About the Artwork

Mason Hollis caught this gray wolf mid-run, all four legs stretched out and its eyes locked on whatever lies ahead. The head and shoulders are painted with care, fur built up in fine strokes of gray, cream and warm tan. Then, somewhere around the ribs, the wolf starts to come apart.

That's where the splash technique takes over. Teal drips run down from the belly, violet blooms across the back, and amber washes soak into the haunches before the tail fades into deep indigo. Loose specks of paint scatter across the white paper, and a smeared streak underfoot gives the wolf ground to run on. This wolf watercolor painting sits right between careful wildlife study and loose, open color.

It's a good fit for anyone who loves wolves but wants something lighter and more painterly than a dark forest scene. Nature lovers, watercolor fans, and people drawn to animals in motion tend to connect with it right away.

The wide format reads well above a sofa, a bed or a long console, and as a large wolf canvas it holds its own in an open living room. Choose it as framed wolf wall art for a finished look in an office or hallway. Soft whites and muted jewel tones make this canvas wall art easy to pair with gray, wood or white interiors.

After coordinating hundreds of weddings, I craved something quieter and more personal. Animals became my focus in 2013 when I started painting my neighbor's rescue dogs. The loose, expressive brushwork feels like freedom after years of managing timelines and vendor lists.

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
