About the Artwork

This wildflower canvas art by Bennett Hawthorne opens onto a field of golden buttercups and wild mustard that runs all the way to the horizon. A handful of single red poppies break up the yellow, each one pressed on with a few thick strokes and a dark center. Above it all, the late-afternoon sky glows peach, cream and soft lavender.

Bennett built this wildflower meadow painting with a palette knife, laying the paint in bold slabs you can almost feel. The petals sit up off the surface, the stems are scratched in thin and quick, and the field folds into a rolling hills painting that drifts toward a low blue-grey line of distance. It reads as a textured floral painting up close and a calm countryside view from across the room.

It suits anyone who misses open country, loves the first warm days of summer, or simply wants a poppy canvas art piece that feels sunny without being loud. The golds and sage greens pair easily with wood, linen and warm neutrals, making it easy countryside wall art for farmhouse and modern homes alike.

Hang this canvas wall art as dining room wall art where the warm light can carry a meal into evening, or use it as above bed wall art for a soft, golden view to wake up to. It also settles nicely into a living room, entry or reading corner.

After years mixing cocktails in Manhattan dive bars, I moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains in 2015. The morning fog rolling over these hills reminded me why I loved painting before life got complicated. Now I spend my days chasing that soft light through the seasons.
