About the Artwork

This is the quiet moment after the pour. Julian Mercer set a single rocks glass on a weathered barrel head, the ice finally still, the bourbon glowing amber from somewhere inside. Short, square strokes of rust, olive, plum and pink build the oak staves and iron hoops, so the wood looks warm and lived in rather than polished.

As the closing panel of his barrel triptych, this piece of whiskey barrel wall art slows everything down. Behind the glass, more barrels fade into soft, blocky color, and the light catches the rim and the ice cubes in small bright flecks. It reads as calm, dark and a little nostalgic.

It suits the person who keeps a good bottle for the right evening, or anyone pulling together bourbon wall art for a home bar. Hang it alone or alongside the other two panels for a full story told in three glasses.

This canvas wall art fits a man cave wall, a speakeasy corner, or a whiskey room decor setup near leather chairs and low lamps. It also works as dark moody wall art above a sideboard or in a den where the evenings run long.

Working construction in downtown Boston, I'd spend lunch breaks sketching pigeons and stray cats. After years of twelve-hour shifts, I started painting those same animals at night. Now my Fenway studio overlooks the park where those first sketches began.
