“Working construction in downtown Boston, I'd spend lunch breaks sketching pigeons and stray cats. After years of twelve-hour shifts, I started painting those same animals at night. Now my Fenway studio overlooks the park where those first sketches began.”

About Julian

Julian Mercer’s path to art began on Boston construction sites, sketching pigeons and stray cats on lunch breaks. After years of twelve-hour shifts, the former ironworker began painting those animals at night. Mercer, who also has a background in museum studies, now works from a Fenway studio overlooking the park where it all started.

The style is impressionist, and water runs through much of the work. Niagara Falls tumbles in layers as rainbow light streaks through the mist. Golden fireworks burst over the Boston skyline, and Lake Champlain catches the last light below Burlington. Out west, surfers ride turquoise breaks in San Diego.
