About the Artwork

This watercolor butterfly painting by Jenna Lockwood catches a glasswing mid-pause on a round cluster of lantana. Its wings are nearly clear, edged in warm brown, with washes of lavender and cream letting the flowers below show through. The blooms are a happy mix of magenta, tangerine, coral and golden yellow, set on deep green serrated leaves.

Jenna works in a splash watercolor style, so you'll see loose pools of violet bleeding into the paper, small flicked droplets, and fine ink lines tracing every vein and leg. The rest of the sheet stays open and airy, which gives the butterfly plenty of room to breathe.

It's a whimsical butterfly painting for anyone who loves garden visitors and soft, colorful butterfly wall art that still feels calm. Gardeners, nature lovers and new parents tend to fall for this one.

As canvas wall art it works beautifully as butterfly wall art for nursery spaces, pairing well with other floral nursery wall art. It also suits a sunny bathroom, a reading nook, or a gallery wall in the living room.

I paint on a screened porch in Savannah, surrounded by buckets of whatever is blooming that week. Growing cut flowers for market taught me that color looks best when it is a little wild and loose. I drop magenta, teal and sunflower yellow onto wet paper and let them bloom outward, stepping in only to keep some white paper bright.

It looks amazing!

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
