About the Artwork

This vintage car painting puts you right in the driver's seat. A thin chrome steering wheel and a curved rust-red dashboard frame the windshield, and beyond the glass a straight two-lane highway runs toward red mesas under a warm amber sky. Cactus and sagebrush dot the sand on both sides of the yellow center line.

Sloane Whitaker built it with a palette knife, laying the paint on thick in short, flat strokes. You can see the ridges in the headliner, the glint on the chrome hub, and the layered bands of sky. It reads as a classic car painting with real texture, not a polished photo of one.

It's made for anyone who has felt the pull of an open road trip through the Southwest, or who grew up riding in a car with a bench seat and a metal dash. As americana wall art it carries a quiet, nostalgic feel, and it makes a good gift for collectors of classic car art.

This canvas wall art fits well as man cave wall art, over a workbench as garage canvas art, or in a den or home office with leather and wood. The warm browns and oranges sit easily with tan, rust, and charcoal decor.

Working nights at downtown hotels, I'd sketch the stray cats that gathered by the loading dock during my breaks. Those rough drawings became my first real paintings when I finally had time during the day.
