About the Artwork

This koala has found the one spot in the house that feels like a eucalyptus fork. It's wedged into the sloping back of an empty clawfoot tub, eyes shut, arms hanging limp over the rim with its claws dangling. Sawyer Maddox painted the fur in soft gray and brown washes, gave the tub a deep indigo glaze, and finished the feet in golden ochre scrollwork.

The splash watercolor style does a lot of the work here. Rust, sand and wine-red pigment drips down the paper and spatters behind the tub, so this piece of vintage bathtub wall art feels loose and lively even though its subject couldn't be more relaxed. It sits happily among bathroom art prints that lean warm and a little playful.

It's for anyone who collects animals in bathtub wall art, loves koalas, or simply wants quirky bathroom wall art that makes guests smile on the way out. It also makes an easy gift for the friend whose favorite hobby is a long nap.

As bathroom canvas wall art, it works above a towel bar, beside a vanity mirror, or as small bathroom wall art in a tight corner. It's a natural fit for powder room wall art or half bath wall decor, and the blue and rust palette pairs well with white tile, brass fixtures and wood shelving.

After a shoulder injury ended my stunt career in 2019, I found myself sketching animals during physical therapy. My neighbor's ancient bulldog became my first real subject, and I haven't stopped drawing since.
