About the Artwork

Two russet hens work their way through a patch of summer grass, one with her beak down in the stems and the other standing tall with her head up, keeping watch. Brynn Ellery built every feather with a palette knife, laying thick ridges of copper, chestnut and honey brown so the birds almost seem to rustle on the canvas.

Around them, the field breaks into chunky strokes of sage, cream and pale gold, with flicks of teal and dusty rose tucked into the grass. The sky is a soft patchwork of butter yellow and washed blue. It's rustic farmhouse wall decor with real texture, the kind you want to step closer to.

This is a good fit for anyone who keeps backyard chickens, grew up around a barn, or just likes country wall decor that feels lived-in rather than staged. It reads as farm animal wall art with a modern rustic wall art edge, thanks to those loose, confident knife marks.

Hang this canvas wall art above a kitchen bench or coffee bar as farmhouse kitchen wall art, or let it anchor a breakfast nook as farmhouse dining room wall art. In a larger size it works well over a sideboard or in an entryway where the warm browns can greet you.

Working with flowers for fifteen years taught me about color in ways art school never could. When I finally switched to painting full-time in 2002, I brought that understanding of how colors breathe together into every brushstroke.
