About the Artwork

Celine Marquez built this one up in thick layers of black and graphite, then scraped them back with a palette knife until a rough grey circle surfaced. Around its rim, torn edges of ivory underpaint break through like a crescent of light. Below, the paint runs down in long, thin drips that fade into a soft, reflective grey.

This black and grey canvas art lives on texture. You can follow every ridge and crack the knife left behind, and the circle reads a little like a moon, a little like an old wall that's been weathered by rain. It's monochrome abstract wall art that still feels physical and alive.

It's for people who like a quiet palette with a bit of grit in it. If you've been looking for black and white canvas wall art that isn't flat or predictable, or for sophisticated abstract wall art that holds its own without bright color, this one gives you something to look at for a long time.

Hang it above a sofa as black and white abstract art for living room walls, or use it as modern office wall art behind a desk where clean lines need some depth. The canvas wall art sits well with charcoal, linen, concrete, and warm wood tones.

My tía Rosa's colorful kitchen walls in Guadalajara made me obsessed with bold colors before I could even hold a brush properly. After years of tattooing, I discovered painting let me work bigger and wilder than skin ever could.
