About the Artwork

A single ginkgo leaf, painted far larger than life, opens its fan across the canvas in translucent deep teal. Maris Alden traced each radiating vein in fine burnished gold, then let the paint run, so thin drips of teal and charcoal fall from the lower edge like the leaf is still wet.

The ground is where the texture lives. Thick palette-knife swipes of ivory and cream build up in ridges and cracks, with faint washes of blush, sage and gold peeking through. It reads like plaster textured wall art, and it gives this piece of cream textured wall art a surface you want to look at up close.

It sits between botanical and textured abstract wall art, which makes it easy to live with. If you like quiet, textured minimalist art but want one strong shape and a little shine, this one is for you. It also suits anyone who keeps a ginkgo tree in their memory from a favorite street or garden.

Hang it as neutral living room wall art above a linen sofa, or use it as neutral wall art for dining room walls near natural wood and brass. Printed as canvas wall art, it keeps the warmth of the original paint and the soft glow of the gold lines.

Working with stroke patients for six years taught me how color and form communicate beyond words. I started painting in 2016 when a patient drew something that hit me harder than any therapy session ever had.
