“Working with stroke patients for six years taught me how color and form communicate beyond words. I started painting in 2016 when a patient drew something that hit me harder than any therapy session ever had.”
Six years as a speech therapist working with stroke patients showed Maris Alden how color and form can speak beyond words. In 2016 a drawing by one patient hit harder than any therapy session, and Alden began to paint. The artist holds a BA in Art from the University of Texas and works in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
The work is abstract and painterly, with movement at its core. Lines spiral out from a center in silver, charcoal and black. A pinwheel of teal, navy and emerald turns along thin gold lines, and magenta and blush pink swirl toward each other in another piece. Explore Alden’s best sellers below, printed on matte canvas and ready to hang.
