About the Artwork

This terrace painting puts you right on the balcony. A pink arch frames the view, a floral sofa sits in the warm corner, and potted plants crowd the iron railing. Beyond them, Portofino's pastel houses wrap around a blue harbor, with boats resting at the quay and soft blue hills rising behind.

Chiara Lombardi painted it in her vibrant modern impressionist style, with loose, visible strokes of coral, peach and tangerine on the walls and calm blues in the water and sky. The word 'Portofino' is lettered by hand across the sky, like a postcard you'd keep on the fridge for years.

It's for anyone who has sat on an Italian terrace and wished they could stay one more afternoon, or for someone who is still dreaming of that trip. It makes a thoughtful gift for travelers, honeymooners and lovers of the Ligurian coast.

As canvas wall art, it brings warmth to a living room, a sunny reading nook, a guest bedroom or an entryway. Pair it with light wood, rattan or soft pink textiles and it feels like an open window to the sea.

I painted backdrops for the opera in Rome for seven years: balconies, arches, a sea that had to read from the last row. I still paint rooms that open onto a view. A chair, a bowl of oranges, a window thrown wide on Capri or Lake Como, all in warm, generous colour, as if the curtain had just gone up.
