“I painted backdrops for the opera in Rome for seven years: balconies, arches, a sea that had to read from the last row. I still paint rooms that open onto a view. A chair, a bowl of oranges, a window thrown wide on Capri or Lake Como, all in warm, generous colour, as if the curtain had just gone up.”

About Chiara

Chiara Lombardi spent seven years painting backdrops for the opera in Rome: balconies, arches, and a sea that had to read clearly from the last row of the house. Trained in set design at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, she learned to build a whole world on canvas and make it carry across a room. That stagecraft still shapes her work today. Every picture is composed like a scene, with a clear foreground, an open doorway or window, and a view that draws the eye straight through.

Working in acrylic and gouache on canvas from her home in Rome, Chiara paints interiors that open onto the Italian landscape. A simple chair, a bowl of oranges, or a window thrown wide on Capri or Lake Como appears in warm, generous color, with loose, painterly brushwork and a modern sense of shape. Her canvases bring light and a feeling of space to living rooms, dining rooms, and kitchens, and they make a cheerful focal point in an entryway or a windowless hallway that could use a view. Below are Lombardi’s canvases in our shop, ready to hang.
