About the Artwork

This tabby cat painting by Maren Ellison catches a striped cat in the middle of a very serious nap. It's curled into a tight round loaf with its eyes shut and its banded tail wrapped around its paws. Two potted cacti stand nearby in clay-red pots, one tall and one short, like they're keeping watch.

Maren paints in a contemporary pop art style with heavy black outlines and visible brushwork, so the print reads like a textured painting canvas even from across the room. The rug underneath is all zigzags of coral, teal and plum, and the cat's tan and cream stripes echo that pattern in a softer way.

It's for cat people, plant people and anyone who likes their walls a little funny. If you lean toward whimsical wall art or a maximalist wall art look with lots of color and pattern, this one fits right in, and it makes an easy gift for someone whose own cat sleeps exactly like this.

Hang this canvas wall art in a reading nook, a sunny hallway or above a sofa as part of your eclectic living room decor. It pairs well with houseplants, woven textiles and warm wood, and it holds its own next to other quirky wall art in a gallery grouping.

After fifteen years creating window displays for department stores, I realized I was already composing abstract scenes every day. The transition to canvas felt natural, though now my compositions exist beyond seasonal deadlines and commercial constraints.
