About the Artwork

This sunflower painting takes you up a golden Tuscan hill, where stone houses with terracotta roofs cluster around a tall bell tower. Dark cypresses stand in rows between the homes, and a band of soft blue mountains rolls along behind them under a buttery yellow sky with Toscana lettered across the top.

Marco Bellandi built the whole scene with a palette knife, laying the paint on thick so the fields and sky crack and ridge like sun-baked earth. Up front, a row of orange sunflowers with dark centers turns toward you, close enough that the village feels like a view from the edge of a summer field.

It suits anyone who has wandered the back roads of Tuscany, or who just wants that warm, slow afternoon light in their home. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a traveler, a gardener, or someone who loves textured, hand-made looking work.

As canvas wall art, it brings warmth to a kitchen, dining room, or entryway, and it pairs well with wood, terracotta, and linen. Hang it where the light hits it and the impasto texture really comes alive.

I spent fifteen winters scraping and varnishing wooden boats in the yards of Camogli, and learned how a blade spreads a thick coat and catches the light. Today the knife does the painting: the stacked houses of the Cinque Terre, harbours at sunset, a lemon or a tray of sardines, laid on in heavy ridges you can almost touch.

It looks amazing!

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
