About the Artwork

Three shepherds stand on a wind-brushed hillside, hoods up and faces turned toward a soft glow breaking through the clouds. Tahlia Emerson paints them as simple cream silhouettes, just a few strokes each, with one tall crooked staff catching the light. Around their feet, a handful of woolly sheep rest in the long golden grass.

This shepherds nativity painting is done in her soft contemporary impressionist style. Loose, visible brushwork sweeps across the slope, the sky moves from dusty blue to warm honey, and the far hills fade into green and violet toward a distant line of water. It's quiet, and it leaves room for the story to fill in the rest.

It's for anyone who wants christmas nativity art that feels calm rather than busy, a piece of christian christmas wall art that tells the moment before the shepherds headed for Bethlehem. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a pastor, a church family, or a parent who loves the Christmas story.

Hang this canvas wall art above a sofa, mantel, or entry table where the warm light can greet guests through the season. The muted palette sits easily with neutral rooms, so it works well beyond December, too.

Working oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico for six years taught me about horizons and endless skies. When I moved back to California in 2019, I started capturing those vast spaces and bold colors I remembered from both the ocean and my childhood trips to Guadalajara with my family.
