About the Artwork

Santa stands with his back to us, head tipped up toward a deep night sky. Silas Merrick paints him at half length in thick, knife-worked strokes: a red coat broken into rose, crimson and dusty pink, a cream fur trim, a curly white beard catching the light. Above him, teal and navy sweep across the canvas while flecks and drips of gold fall like stars.

This is contemporary christmas art with an old world santa art soul. The figure feels classic, but the loose vertical streaks of plum, sage and sand behind him push it toward the abstract. It reads as a quiet moment, Santa checking the sky before the long night ahead.

It suits anyone who wants holiday wall art that feels painterly rather than cartoonish, and collectors of christmas canvas prints who like a little texture and mood. It also makes a thoughtful santa claus art print for someone who keeps Christmas decor up a little longer than everyone else, since the blue palette holds up as winter wall art well past December.

Hang this canvas wall art above a mantel, a sideboard or the sofa as christmas wall art for living room spaces, where the gold accents can pick up lamplight and tree lights. It pairs nicely with brass, deep green and natural wood.

Running emergency calls for eight years taught me to see patterns in chaos. Started with geometric sketches during downtime at the station, and those angular forms became the foundation for everything I create now.
