About the Artwork

Santa has reached the top of the hill and stopped for a moment, sack slung over one shoulder, looking out past the snow. Behind him the sky goes from peach to coral to soft violet, laid on in thick, flat strokes of the palette knife that crack and ridge like frosting. This santa canvas by Willa Prescott feels like the last quiet minute before a long night of work.

The snow is where the knife really shows. Broad slabs of cream and white sit next to streaks of turquoise and deep blue, and little tufts of winter grass poke through along the slope. His red suit, white fur trim and black boots are painted with real care, giving it the warmth of old world santa art without looking dated.

It suits anyone who loves a traditional Father Christmas with a painterly, handmade feel, and it makes a thoughtful pick for collectors of christmas canvas prints or a family that brings out the same holiday wall art every December.

Hang this canvas wall art above the sofa, over a mantel or along the entry hall. The pink and lavender sky keeps it glowing well past Christmas, so it works just as easily as winter wall art through January and February.

Working at a Vermont dairy farm for three years taught me to really observe animals up close. The way light hit a cow's flank at sunrise, how horses shifted their weight - these small details became everything in my paintings.
