About the Artwork

This saint nicholas painting shows the old bishop walking straight toward you through the snow, a gold mitre on his head and a long shepherd's staff in one hand. His white beard falls over a cream robe tied with a simple cord, and a burnt orange cloak swings out behind him like it caught the last of the evening light.

Bennett Hawthorne built every inch of it with a palette knife. The paint sits thick and ridged, with cream and gold snow broken up by slabs of lavender and soft blue, and a sky streaked with apricot and pink. Up close it reads as pure texture. Step back and the whole golden hour comes together.

It's a good fit for anyone who loves old world santa art and the quieter, older story behind Christmas. Families who keep the feast of Saint Nicholas, collectors of father christmas wall art, and anyone who wants holiday wall art that feels like a real painting rather than a decoration will find a lot to like here.

Hang this canvas wall art above a sofa or fireplace as christmas wall art for living room spaces, or in an entry where guests see it first. The warm cream and lavender tones also let it stay up past December as winter wall art, and it sits easily alongside other christmas canvas prints.

After years mixing cocktails in Manhattan dive bars, I moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains in 2015. The morning fog rolling over these hills reminded me why I loved painting before life got complicated. Now I spend my days chasing that soft light through the seasons.
