About the Artwork

A single white dome sits quietly on the moon, with a round teal door, a short antenna topped by a red ball, and a flat base ringed in gray. Around it, the lunar ground rolls out in soft craters, while an orange striped planet hangs high in a deep navy sky full of tiny cream stars.

Poppy Hartigan painted this piece of retro space art in a mid-century style, with visible brushwork on the dome and the craters and a calm, limited palette. It feels like a page from an old picture book, simple and a little dreamy, the kind of place a kid imagines living someday.

It's made for young explorers and the parents planning their rooms. As space nursery decor it keeps things gentle and uncluttered, and it grows easily into space bedroom decor as the years go by. This canvas wall art suits anyone who likes their outer space nursery a bit quieter than a galaxy of neon.

Hang it above a crib, a reading nook, or a bed, where the tall starry sky can draw the eye upward. It pairs well with navy walls, warm wood, and other stars nursery decor, and it fits right into a playroom or any space room decor theme.

I taught in a Montessori classroom in Asheville, North Carolina, for ten years, and the question I heard most was what is up there. Now I paint the answer for children's rooms in flat, bright gouache: little rockets, astronauts and ringed planets on deep navy skies, in the warm oranges, teals and mustards of the old space-age posters I loved as a kid.
