About the Artwork

A wide rainbow of five arched bands rises from behind two low dunes, one pale sand, one dusty clay. Dale Pennington painted it in matte layers, working from rust and burnt orange on the outside through golden ochre and blush pink down to a soft sage at the center. The edges stay a little brushy, so each stripe reads as painted by hand rather than printed flat.

This piece of retro canvas art borrows the color story of a 70s retro painting and keeps it quiet. There's no glare, no hard contrast, just warm earth tone wall art with a creamy background that gives the arch plenty of room to breathe. The burnt orange wall art feel of the outer bands is balanced by that cool sage green wall art note in the middle.

It suits anyone who loves boho rainbow wall art but wants something grown up enough for a living space. Fans of groovy home decor will spot the nod to the seventies, and people who simply want calming wall art will appreciate how still and settled it feels.

Hang this canvas wall art above a linen sofa, a rattan bed frame or a nursery dresser. It pairs easily with other retro wall art, woven textures, and terracotta wall art accents, and works as a soft retro rainbow wall art focal point in a bedroom, reading corner or entryway.

The Kansas River runs slow past Lawrence, through prairie gone rust and mustard. Those are the bands I pull across pale sand in a drafty garage on the east side of town. Years running a grain elevator left me patient with weather, timing and slow wear. Wax softens each layer. It should feel like old wood someone still cares for.
