About the Artwork

A small, calm shape in golden straw. Ines Arellano paints the newborn Child from slightly above, swaddled in soft cream cloth, cheeks pink, one tiny hand tucked under his chin. The wooden manger stands on crossed legs, its planks touched with pale blue and sand, while loose straw spills over the edges and onto the floor.

This nativity scene painting is built from short, layered dabs of color. Cream, tan, dusty blue and warm gray drift across the background like quiet light, so the whole piece feels hushed and gentle rather than busy. It reads like a nativity oil painting, with brushwork you can follow stroke by stroke.

It's a fitting piece of religious wall decor for anyone who keeps Christmas close to its heart, for new parents, or for a grandparent who likes a holy night painting that stays peaceful all year. As a nativity canvas print, it also makes a thoughtful gift for a baptism or a first Christmas.

Hang this canvas wall art above a sideboard, in a nursery, or along the stairs. In December it works as a Christmas decor wall hanging next to the tree, and the soft neutrals let it stay up long after the season ends.

The bay is a few blocks from my small garage studio in San Diego, and the coast gives me soft mornings and garden light. Arranging stems as a florist made clear how much quiet space a composition needs. So I keep things airy. Layered brushwork, a little knife work, hushed colors, and a painting that sits calmly in a room.
