About the Artwork

This piece of red fox art catches a quiet moment at the edge of a field. A red fox stands square on top of an old fieldstone wall, ears up, eyes fixed on something out across the meadow. Below him, goldenrod and purple asters spill over the stones, and the hedgerow behind burns orange and gold in the late autumn light.

Graham Delaney built this one up with a palette knife, and you can see every pass. The fox's coat is laid down in thick ridges of rust, cream and smoky gray. The wall stones carry streaks of moss green, lavender and slate, and the sky is pulled flat in wide pale strokes of peach and soft blue. Up close it reads like texture. From across the room it reads like evening.

It's a good fit for anyone who loves country walks, wildlife or the turn of the season. If you've been collecting fox art prints, this one brings a warmer, more painterly feel than most, with a real sense of place behind the animal.

As canvas wall art, it settles in nicely above a farmhouse sofa, in a den with wood and leather, or along a hallway that could use some color. The oranges and purples pair well with natural wood, olive greens and warm neutrals.

After fifteen years fixing engines, I traded my wrench for brushes in 2017. The precision required for mechanical work translates surprisingly well to capturing light on canvas. My garage studio still smells faintly of motor oil.
