About the Artwork

Tomas Herrera painted the best moment of any bowl of ramen: the first lift. A pair of chopsticks pulls a long, wavy tangle of noodles high above the broth, and soft ribbons of steam curl up around the strands. The whole scene is worked in quiet grays and creamy whites, with loose, brushy patches in the background that keep it feeling like a real painting.

This ramen wall art leans on texture instead of color. Every noodle gets its own highlight and shadow, the bowl is built from broad, flat strokes, and the steam drifts in thin, smoky lines. It reads as a calm Japanese food painting, simple and a little nostalgic.

It's for the person who plans weekends around a favorite noodle shop, or anyone who wants food wall art for kitchen walls that feels thoughtful rather than loud. The soft black and white palette works with almost any color scheme.

Hang this canvas wall art by the stove, over a dining nook, or along a hallway near the kitchen. It also suits cafe wall art and Japanese restaurant wall art needs, adding a warm, quiet note to a counter or a booth.

Speed is overrated in painting. Before this I made theater backdrops, working big, fast and with broad brushes. Now, in a narrow studio in Valencia's Ruzafa neighborhood near the old market, I slow down. I wash chalk white and warm grey over large canvases and add a few charcoal marks. Coastlines and quiet rooftops come out open and light.
