About the Artwork

This painting puts you right on a pink terrace in Positano. A little white table holds a bowl of peaches and lemons, red-fruited plants spill from orange pots, and past the railing the deep blue sea opens up toward the hills. The town's pastel houses stack up the cliff in pink, mint, yellow and white.

Giulia Amato paints in flat, confident blocks of color with visible brushwork in the striped floor and the sky. The word Positano is hand-lettered across the clouds like a postcard you'd keep. This positano art feels sunny and relaxed without getting fussy about detail.

It's for anyone who has stood on a balcony on the Amalfi Coast, or wants to. Travelers, lovers of Italian summers, and people who like their walls bright and cheerful will find a lot to enjoy here.

As canvas wall art, it brings warmth to a kitchen, a dining nook, or a sunny living room. It also works in a guest room or entryway where a splash of color and a sense of vacation are welcome.

For ten years I painted lemons and fishing boats on majolica tiles in a workshop above the beach in Vietri. The glazes taught me to trust flat, fearless colour. Now I paint the towns of the coast the same way: pink houses, lemon trees and that impossible blue, brushed fast in gouache and acrylic.
