About the Artwork

Lori Kaplan painted the word Bar as a looping neon tube script, bolted to a brick wall and glowing hot pink with a red halo around every curve. The bricks are brushed in loose reds and browns with chalky mortar lines. Below, a glossy ink-black counter catches a long, blurred pink reflection of the sign.

This neon bar sign painting is part of her Bar Words and Recipes collection, done in a contemporary pop art style. It reads like a neon glow painting rather than a photo of one, with visible strokes in the tubing, the little mounting clips, and the wet shine of the bar top.

It's made for people who love a good night out and want that feeling at home. If you've been looking for bar wall art with some warmth and a little speakeasy wall art attitude, this one fits, and it makes an easy gift for anyone setting up a home bar.

Hang this canvas wall art above a bar cabinet, in a basement den, or near the kitchen where drinks get poured. It works as pub wall art in a game room too, and it holds its own as drinks wall art next to shelves of glassware.

I paint in a narrow loft in Manhattan's Garment District, above a button supplier. Working a cosmetics counter taught me how a single sharp line or flash of pink changes a whole face. I block in hot pink and lemon with flat acrylic, then outline every shape in crisp black so the canvas reads from across a room, like a shop window.
