About the Artwork

A dark wood upright piano waits against a wall of vertical slats, fallboard open and keys ready. A small brass lamp sits on top, its amber shade throwing a warm pool of light down the polished front, catching the gold trim above the keyboard and the brass pedals near the floor.

Brian Stockton paints it in short, loose strokes of brown, plum, and honey, with flecks of blue and rose scattered across the floor and walls. Up close it breaks into color; step back and it reads as a quiet room just before someone sits down to play. As piano wall art, it feels like a musical instrument painting with a real sense of place.

It suits the pianist who learned on an old upright, the teacher with a studio full of students, or anyone who loves the hum of a room built for music. It has the mood of vintage music wall art without feeling like a copy of something old.

Hang this canvas wall art above a piano, in a reading nook, or as part of your music room decor. It also brings warmth to music studio decor, especially where wood tones and soft lamplight already set the scene.

I keep a small studio near the Portland waterfront, but most of my paintings start outdoors, including on trips to the harbor towns of Portugal and Italy. Years as a commercial photographer trained me to wait for the light rather than chase the subject. I paint reflections in quick broken dabs, letting oranges sit inside blue water and warm highlights burn on wet stone.

It looks amazing!

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
