About the Artwork

Santa is out on his own here, walking across a wide, empty snowfield as the light fades to blue. One small lantern glows at his side, and a long line of footprints curves back toward the pines behind him. Caleb Moretti paints the snow in loose, buttery strokes of lavender, pale blue and warm peach, so the whole field seems to hold the last of the sunset.

This is a quiet oversized christmas wall art piece in Moretti's soft contemporary impressionism. The red coat and fur trim stand out against all that cool space, and the lantern adds a single warm spark. It reads like a vintage santa painting, but the brushwork feels fresh and open rather than copied from an old card.

It suits anyone who loves the calm side of the season: the walk home on Christmas Eve, the hush after snowfall, the old Father Christmas stories. Collectors of christmas paintings on canvas will find it pairs well with the rest of the Old World Santa collection.

As a large santa canvas, it holds its own above a sofa, a mantel or a long entry console, where the wide horizon has room to breathe. This christmas canvas wall art brings soft winter light into a living room or a cozy reading corner every December.

A rainy Tuesday in 2015 when the library was unusually quiet, I sketched the light coming through the tall windows. That sketch sat on my desk for months before I finally bought paints to finish it properly.
