About the Artwork

Seen from high above, a river splits into dozens of channels and threads its way to the sea. Sylvie Aldridge painted each sandbar in thick palette knife ridges of cream, tan and warm grey, then carved the water between them in teal and deep navy. Small flicks of white mark the surf where the delta meets open ocean.

The texture does a lot of the work here. You can see where the knife dragged and stacked the paint, so the sand looks layered and the channels feel like they're moving. As oversized canvas wall art, it reads as a landscape from across the room and turns almost abstract up close, which makes it a natural fit as hand painted canvas wall art for people who like detail.

It's a good choice for anyone who wants calming wall art that still has some energy to it. The soft sand tones keep things quiet, while the blues and greens give the eye a path to follow. It works well as modern office wall art or executive office wall art for someone who wants something steady and thoughtful behind the desk.

Hang this large horizontal wall art over a credenza, along a conference room wall, or as waiting room artwork where people settle in for a few minutes. It sits comfortably with wood, grey and white finishes, and brings professional wall art polish to any space that needs a little more breathing room. This canvas wall art fills a long wall without crowding it.

Sylvie Aldridge

After years creating costumes for Boston theater productions, I discovered that mixing pigments felt just like dyeing fabrics. The transition from dressing characters to painting biblical scenes happened gradually, but the storytelling instinct remained the same.
