“After years creating costumes for Boston theater productions, I discovered that mixing pigments felt just like dyeing fabrics. The transition from dressing characters to painting biblical scenes happened gradually, but the storytelling instinct remained the same.”

About Sylvie

Sylvie Aldridge spent years designing costumes for theater productions in Boston, Massachusetts, where the artist still works. Mixing pigments turned out to feel a lot like dyeing fabric, so the shift from dressing characters to painting biblical scenes came naturally, if slowly. Aldridge is self-taught and still thinks like a storyteller.

Blue, brown, beige and warm orange shape an impressionist style with abstract texture. The subjects are quiet and reflective: the Holy Family leaning together beneath golden halos, a lone cross on a hill as dawn fades from coral to sage blue, and a gnarled olive tree beside a dirt path. These three prints make up the Aldridge collection in our shop.
