About the Artwork

This original abstract painting by Liam Novak is built around one big gesture: a rough, dry-brushed ring of cobalt blue that loops across the canvas and stays open at the upper right. Thin blue drips run down from its lower edge, and inky charcoal flicks fly off the stroke like the brush was still moving after it left the surface.

Behind the ring, Liam laid down a warm ground of sandstone ochre and parchment cream, scraped and scored with fine lines. Small passages of lavender, rust red and moss green peek through the layers. It reads as a layered abstract painting with real depth, and the print keeps the look of a textured abstract canvas, every ridge and scratch visible.

It suits anyone who likes art with energy but not noise. The palette is warm and grounded, and the single cobalt blue abstract painting motif gives the eye a clear place to land. It works for collectors drawn to expressive, hand-made marks and for people furnishing their first real home.

As abstract canvas wall art, it hangs well in a living room as abstract art above couch height, in an entryway, or over a desk in a home office. In a bigger size it fills a tall wall as large modern abstract wall art, pairing easily with wood, linen and warm neutrals.

Working with fabrics and textures for fifteen years taught me to see color differently. When I moved back to Prague in 2019, the light hitting the old buildings reminded me why I loved drawing as a kid. Now I spend my mornings in Wenceslas Square sketching before heading to my studio.
