About the Artwork

Reid Ashford painted this fir up close, just the top half, crowned with a gold star against a sky going from deep violet to soft peach. Every bough is a single pass of the palette knife, thick ridges of teal, cream and golden ochre stacked like feathers, with a few round gold baubles tucked in between. It's an oil painting christmas tree you can almost feel with your fingertips.

The background is built the same way, broad flat strokes of plum, lavender and salmon pink laid edge to edge so the twilight looks carved rather than blended. That texture is what makes this contemporary christmas art feel fresh. It reads as a holiday piece without leaning on red and green.

This is for anyone who wants modern christmas wall art with real paint character, or a festive piece that sits comfortably next to soft pinks, purples and brass accents. It also works well past December as winter wall decor, since the colors lean more dusk than tinsel.

Hang it above a console or sideboard as christmas wall art for living room spaces, or in an entry where guests see it first. Printed as canvas wall art, the knife ridges and color shifts hold up beautifully, and larger sizes give you large christmas canvas wall art that anchors a whole wall.

After five years pushing papers at an insurance company, I took a weekend painting class in 2016 that completely redirected my life. The instructor showed us how Monet built light with broken color, and I knew I had to learn that language. Now I spend my days chasing New England's shifting seasons with my easel.
