About the Artwork

Remember the ceramic tree that came out of the box every December and lit up Grandma's side table? Brett Ostrander paints one here, tier after tier of glazed red branches swirled with mint and cream, each tip holding a little plastic light peg in red, gold, aqua or ivory. A small gold star sits on top, and the whole tree rests on a pale ceramic base.

The shape is outlined in confident graphic black, and the glaze is laid down in quick, energetic strokes that catch the shine and drip of the real thing. Behind it, a big mint circle floats on a soft pink ground, giving this nostalgic christmas wall art the bold, flat punch of contemporary pop art with a wink to the 1970s.

It's a natural pick for anyone who collects vintage holiday wall art, loves pastel christmas wall art, or wants a modern christmas wall art piece that still feels like home. It also makes a thoughtful gift for the person in the family who saved the old ceramic tree.

Hang this canvas wall art above a fireplace as christmas mantel art, in an entry, or as cheerful christmas wall art for living room walls next to the real tree. The pink and mint palette sits easily with other christmas canvas prints and keeps your holiday wall decor light and playful.

I work in a bright warehouse studio in Omaha's Old Market. Designing cereal boxes taught me that a shape has about two seconds to grab you from a shelf. I mix candy-bright colors in big jars, roll them on in flat fields with no brushwork showing, then hold the whole composition together with crisp black bands and outlines.
