About the Artwork

Brynn Ellery built this night tide one knife stroke at a time. Slabs of midnight navy, near-black and slate gray overlap in steep diagonal ridges, each one pressed flat and dragged so the paint leaves raised edges and fine combed lines. Where the waves crest, she edged them in gold paint and pressed in small torn flakes of gold leaf that catch the light like moonlight on water.

It reads as the sea at first glance, then settles into an navy blue and gold canvas art piece that works just as well as an impasto abstract painting. Pale sand and ivory strokes drift between the dark ridges, keeping the whole thing from feeling heavy. The texture is the point here, and this print holds every ridge and scrape of the original.
