About the Artwork

Silas Merrick laid ragged streams of gold leaf down a deep midnight navy ground, then let them break apart as they fall. Some lines thin into fine drips, others shed small flakes that catch the light. Behind them, translucent veils of navy, charcoal and soft cream are dragged on with a loaded knife, so the brushwork reads like rain on a window.

It's a gold leaf abstract painting with real surface to it. The cream passages show ridges and lifted edges, the navy sits in heavy pulled strokes, and the gold has that crinkled, foil-like texture you only get from leaf. Up close it feels close to an impasto abstract painting. From across the room it reads as calm vertical rhythm.

This navy and gold wall decor suits anyone who likes textured abstract wall art that stays quiet rather than loud. If you've been looking for metallic gold wall art that feels moody and grown-up instead of glitzy, this one does that.

The tall format works well beside a bed, above a console, or in a narrow hallway where the falling lines can draw the eye up. Pair it with navy velvet, warm brass, walnut or linen. As gold leaf wall art on canvas wall art, it brings a little shimmer to a dark room without taking it over.

When I choose what to paint, I look for the pattern hiding inside the chaos. Eight years of running emergency calls trained my eye for that. It started with geometric sketches during downtime at the station. Those angular forms stuck. Now every piece I make is built on them, sharp lines pulling against the curves.
