About the Artwork

A mother pangolin walks slowly along a low strip of olive and ochre ground, her baby riding at the base of her long tail. Rodrigo Salcedo builds her rust-orange armor from rows of overlapping painted arcs, each one edged in cream, while the little one is a soft mustard gold with smaller, rounder scales. A single teal moon hangs high in the open cream sky.

This mother pangolin painting leans on the flat shapes and quiet confidence of mid-century illustration. The brushwork in the background stays visible, sweeping in long pale strokes, so the canvas feels hand-made rather than printed flat. Lots of empty space keeps the whole scene calm and unhurried.

It suits parents who want nursery animal wall art that goes beyond the usual lions and elephants. The warm, earthy palette makes it easy gender neutral nursery wall art, and it pairs well with other safari animal nursery prints in the series if you are building a set of nursery wall art safari pieces.

Hang this canvas wall art above a crib, changing table or reading chair, where the slow, steady walk sets a gentle tone. As nursery canvas wall art it grows with the room, and it fits neatly into neutral safari nursery decor long after the baby years are over.

I paint in a sunny upstairs studio in Guadalajara, above the street where I grew up. Before painting full time I designed glazed tiles for a family ceramics workshop, and that taught me to think in repeating shapes and quiet colour. My canvases borrow from the modernist houses of my city: soft mustard, teal and terracotta in flat planes, with arches, palms and circles brushed by hand.
