About the Artwork

This longhorn painting puts you face to face with a black Texas steer walking straight at you. Ellis Whitmore built it up in thick palette knife impasto, so the coat shows ridges of black and warm umber, and those long, sweeping horns carry streaks of cream and bone where a sliver of light lands.

Around him, the background breaks into slabs of tan, rust brown and dusty blue-gray, laid on in quick, flat strokes that read like wind and dry grass. Up close, the paint texture is the whole story. From across the room, it is one steady animal coming out of the shadows.

It is made for anyone who grew up around cattle, loves Texas, or just wants longhorn wall art with real weight to it. As western wall decor it feels honest and earthy rather than themed, and it suits a ranch owner, a rodeo fan or a collector of the Moody Western Riders series.

Hang this canvas wall art above a leather sofa, in a study or office, or as the anchor piece in a man cave wall art lineup. The warm browns also sit well in a lodge-style living room or as cabin wall art next to wood paneling and stone.

A painting does not need to explain anything to be useful. For eight years I worked with hospice patients, and I learned to look for peace in the hardest moments. Biblical scenes became my way of sorting through what I saw each day. Moving from that care to spiritual light felt natural. It still does.
