About the Artwork

A sunlit dirt path climbs through thick rows of purple lavender, dotted with red poppies, up to an old Tuscan farmhouse with a terracotta roof. Tall dark cypresses stand guard beside the house, and the hills roll off toward a blue horizon under big white clouds.

Marco Bellandi built this lavender painting with a palette knife, laying the paint on thick so every ridge catches the light. You can see the cut edges in the clouds, the heavy swipes of violet in the flower beds, and the warm ochre ridges of the path that pull your eye straight up the hill.

It's a good fit for anyone who has walked the countryside of Tuscany or Provence, or who simply wants a slice of summer on the wall. The color is bold without being loud: purple and orange balanced by cool sky blue and deep green.

As canvas wall art, it brings warmth to a living room, a dining area, or an entryway that needs a welcoming view. It pairs naturally with wood furniture, linen, and earthy tones, and it holds its own above a sofa or sideboard.

I spent fifteen winters scraping and varnishing wooden boats in the yards of Camogli, and learned how a blade spreads a thick coat and catches the light. Today the knife does the painting: the stacked houses of the Cinque Terre, harbours at sunset, a lemon or a tray of sardines, laid on in heavy ridges you can almost touch.

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
