About the Artwork

This italian street painting drops you at the top of a steep old Rome lane and lets the city spill out below. Ochre and terracotta buildings lean in from both sides, green shutters half open, while red and yellow flowers tumble over the walls. Down the hill, umbrella pines and tiled rooftops lead to a pale church tower and dome against distant blue hills.

Luca Santoro paints it in his vibrant modern impressionist style, with quick confident strokes and flat blocks of warm color. The sky is a clear cornflower blue with heaped white clouds, and a flock of dark birds swirls across it, giving the whole scene a sense of movement and late-morning light.

It's for anyone who has walked those cobbled streets and wants that warmth back, or for someone still dreaming of the trip. Fans of travel art, Italian cities and sunny Mediterranean color will find plenty to look at every time they pass it.

As canvas wall art, the tall format fits nicely in a hallway, beside a staircase or above a console table. It also brings a bright, welcoming feel to a dining room or a reading corner with warm wood and cream tones.

For twelve years I worked the ferries between Naples, Sorrento and Capri, watching the coast change colour hour by hour. I painted on my days off, then every day. My canvases are the coast as a sailor sees it: towns stacked on the cliffs, Vesuvius over the bay, Venice and Portofino in full sun, in bright, broken strokes of oil.

It looks amazing!

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
