About the Artwork

This italian riviera art looks down over a stack of terracotta roofs to a harbor packed with white sailboats. Luca Santoro paints the houses in butter yellow, coral pink and powder blue, with green shutters and a church tower on the hill above. The water goes from turquoise near the quay to deep cobalt out where a few sails drift past the point.

The paint is laid on thick and quick, with knife strokes you can follow across the roofs and choppy dabs on the sea. In the foreground, a tangle of pink and red flowers with bright green leaves pushes right up to the edge, so it feels like you're standing on a terrace looking out.

It's for anyone who still thinks about a summer on the Ligurian coast, or who just wants a room that feels like a long lunch by the water. The colors are bold but warm, and they hold up well from across the room.

Hang this canvas wall art above a sofa, in a sunny dining room or along a hallway that needs some light. It pairs easily with whites, natural wood and blue textiles, and works just as well in a beach house as in a city apartment.

For twelve years I worked the ferries between Naples, Sorrento and Capri, watching the coast change colour hour by hour. I painted on my days off, then every day. My canvases are the coast as a sailor sees it: towns stacked on the cliffs, Vesuvius over the bay, Venice and Portofino in full sun, in bright, broken strokes of oil.

It looks amazing!

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
