About the Artwork

A little European badger cub pads across the canvas on all four paws, nose low to the ground, its striped face turned just slightly your way. Mikkel Thorsen painted the fur in fine, layered strokes of charcoal, smoky gray and soft tan, with those bold white stripes running from the snout up over the ears.

Around the cub, the background is left open and calm. Broad, knife-scraped passes of cream, oat and pale sand build a worn plaster texture, and a light shadow under the paws keeps the badger grounded. This hand painted nursery art leans minimal, so the animal does all the talking.

It suits parents who want woodland charm without busy color, and anyone collecting nursery animal portraits that will still feel right as a child grows. The neutral palette plays well with wood cribs, linen bedding and simple rugs.

Hang this nursery canvas wall art above a dresser, beside a reading chair, or paired with other woodland cubs in a small gallery wall. It also works in a calm hallway or a playroom corner.

I moved from Denmark to Astoria, Oregon, and paint in a narrow studio overlooking the Columbia River. Working as a harbor master's clerk taught me order and restraint, keeping records clear with only what was needed. My minimalist canvases hold a few pale bands of grey, sand and white, brushed thinly so they feel as quiet and soft as sea fog.
