About the Artwork

One tall flower, one arch, one mound of earth. Rui Teixeira painted a dusty pink bloom with six round-tipped petals and a golden center, set on a long S-curved stem that rises from a small hill of rust-colored soil. Two slender sage leaves reach up beside it, and the brushwork stays visible in every stroke, so the petals and leaves have a soft, woven texture.

Behind the stem, a single thick terracotta arch drops to the ground like half of a boho rainbow wall art piece, its end left dry-brushed and open. The cream background is quiet and warm, which lets the earth tone wall art palette of clay, blush and sage do the talking. It reads as groovy wall art with a gentle hand, more seventies garden than loud psychedelia.

This is for anyone who loves retro wall art but wants something calm, someone drawn to sage green wall art and terracotta wall art that sit easily together. It makes a thoughtful gift for a new home or a friend who collects groovy home decor with an earthy, handmade feel.

As calming wall art, this canvas wall art print suits a bedroom, a reading nook, a nursery or an entryway with natural wood and linen. Pair it with plants and warm lighting, or hang it beside other soft botanicals for a relaxed gallery wall.

My first decision is how much of the cream ground stays empty. A quiet surface can hold a room, the way an old tile wall does. Restoring azulejos, I learned how color ages. In a narrow studio near the Douro, under crumbling ochre plaster I love, I layer an arch, a leaf, a low sun in chalky earth tones.
