About the Artwork

This little goat has made up its mind. All four hooves are bunched together on the narrow rim of an old enamel washtub, and not one of them is going in that water. Joaquin Serrano painted the coat in fine, careful strokes: brown and black patches, a white blaze down the face, a scruffy beard, and curved horns that catch the light.

Around the goat, the paint lets loose. Splashes of golden ochre, rust and cobalt blue drip and spatter across the white paper, and they run right down over the chipped tub with its blue rim. The calm, detailed animal set against all that loose color is what gives this goat painting its charm.

It's for anyone who has tried to give a reluctant pet a bath, anyone raised around farm animals, or anyone who wants bathroom wall decor that gets a laugh. As bathroom canvas wall art it brings warmth and a bit of humor without feeling cluttered.

Hang it above the tub, next to the vanity, or as powder room wall art where guests will spot it right away. The clean white background keeps it at home as modern bathroom wall art, while the earthy splashes suit farmhouse spaces too. This canvas wall art also works in a laundry room or mudroom.

I paint on a rooftop terrace in Málaga, looking toward the sea with the sun on my back. Managing a citrus orchard taught me to watch light and weather before anything else. I splash Mediterranean blues and orange-grove warmth across thick white paper, working fast while it is wet and leaving open patches that glow like sunlit walls.
