About the Artwork

This cat found the one cool, round spot in the house and folded itself right in. Maren Ellison painted her curled tight in a cream pedestal sink, coat streaked in black, deep teal, rust orange and violet, amber eyes wide open and fixed on you. The message is plain: she is not moving, and the faucet is not getting turned on.

The brushwork is loose and visible, with short dry strokes building the fur and long sweeps shaping the porcelain. A wash of lavender and plum fills the wall behind her, two little cream ghosts drift overhead, and a few rust leaves float past. It reads as a contemporary pop art piece with a gentle spooky wink rather than a full Halloween scene.

Among our funny bathroom prints, this one is for cat people who have lost a sink or two to a stubborn pet, and for anyone who likes a little mischief in their bathroom wall decor all year long. It makes a good gift for the friend whose cat sleeps anywhere but its bed.

Hang it above the towel bar or next to the mirror as bathroom canvas wall art that sparks a smile every morning. The purple and teal palette suits modern bathroom wall art schemes, and it is just the right amount of personality for powder room wall art where guests will linger a second longer.

After fifteen years creating window displays for department stores, I realized I was already composing abstract scenes every day. The transition to canvas felt natural, though now my compositions exist beyond seasonal deadlines and commercial constraints.
