About the Artwork

This foxglove painting by Wesley Danforth follows one plant from the soil up. Tight green buds crowd the tip of the stem, then loosen into pale tubular bells, and lower down the full mauve blooms hang open, each throat dotted with dark freckles. At the base, a rosette of broad, soft leaves spreads out in muted grey-greens.

Wesley paints in a soft contemporary impressionist hand. The background is laid in loose vertical strokes of cream, sand, and a warm ochre glow, so the flower feels lit from behind without any fuss. The petals get careful attention, while the leaves stay brushy and relaxed.

It suits anyone who loves cottage gardens and wildflower wall art but wants something quieter than a crowded bouquet. The palette reads as neutral botanical wall art with a gentle lilac accent, easy to live with day after day.

As flower canvas wall art, its tall format fits a narrow spot by the door as entryway wall art, a calm patch between cabinets as kitchen wall art, or beside a reading chair. Pair it with linen, wood, and other sage green wall art for a soft, collected look.

I paint in a weathered shed behind my house in Gloucester, a few streets up from the harbor. Working as a sternman on a lobster boat taught me to read the changing light over water at dawn. My soft impressionist canvases are built from small, loose dabs of sand, mist and faded sea blue, kept low in contrast so the painting settles quietly into a room.

It looks amazing!

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
