About the Artwork

Five old oil cans stand shoulder to shoulder on a beat-up wooden shelf, no labels, just metal and time. Some carry pump tops with curled nozzles, others rise to long thin spouts, and every one of them shows dents, scrapes and creeping rust. Tessa Langley built their sides from thick slabs of paint laid on with a palette knife, so the light catches each ridge the way it would on bent tin.

This rusty oil cans painting belongs to our Mechanic Workshop Still Life collection. The silver-gray wall behind the cans is a patchwork of knife strokes, and the shelf below is scraped in sand, tan and dark brown. It's still life wall art with grit, where the rust colored wall art tones of the red can pull your eye straight to the center.

It makes good wall art for men who keep a toolbox handy, restore old engines or just like things that show their age. Anyone who remembers a grandfather's garage will know these cans on sight.
