About the Artwork

Morning comes up pink and gold over the harbour, and this stall is already set. Rows of whole silver fish lie nose to tail on a tilted bed of crushed ice, each one catching a little of the dawn light along its striped back. Overhead, the scalloped edge of a red and cream awning frames the water and the masts of the boats waiting at the dock.

Everett Langston built this fish market painting with a palette knife, laying the paint on thick so every chip of ice stands up in ridges and every fish has a sheen you can almost feel. The sea is cut in short teal strokes, the sky is smeared soft, and the worn wooden crate holds it all together in warm browns.

It's for the cook who loves an early market run, the family that spends summers on the coast, or anyone who wants food wall art with a sense of place instead of a recipe card look. It also suits seafood restaurant decor, where it tells guests exactly how fresh the catch is.

As canvas wall art, it brings a relaxed seaside mood to a coastal kitchen wall art grouping, hangs well as large dining room wall art above a sideboard, or works as rustic kitchen wall art near an open shelf of plates and copper pans.

Pouring wine for a living meant watching how a scene shifts as the light moves across it. Afternoons in wine country could be slow. I filled them sketching the vineyard animals, mostly horses and farm dogs, in quick studies. Those small drawings turned into my first serious paintings.

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
