About the Artwork

This enso circle wall art comes from a single loaded turn of the brush. Mikkel Thorsen sets the ink down heavy and wet at the lower left, sweeps it up and around, and lets it thin into a broken dry-brush tail that stops just short of closing the ring. That small gap is the whole point. It's wabi sabi wall art in its plainest form, an honest mark left as it fell.

Behind the ring, the ground is built up in layers of cream, ivory and soft sand, with visible knife and brush texture that keeps the surface alive. The result is black and cream abstract art that feels quiet without feeling empty, a true piece of black brush stroke wall art from our Black Ink Gestures collection.

It suits anyone drawn to modern minimalist wall art and japandi wall art, people who like one strong gesture more than a crowded wall. If you collect black and white wall decor or practice meditation, this enso gives you a calm place for the eye to rest.

Printed as canvas wall art, it works as black and white bedroom wall art above a low linen bed, as abstract art for dining room walls beside a pale oak table, or as abstract canvas art for living room spaces with plaster tones, wood and stone.

My rule: stop before a band turns heavy. I brush thin bands of grey, sand and white and keep only what is needed, a habit of order and restraint from years as a harbor master's clerk. Since leaving Denmark, I work in a narrow Astoria studio above the Columbia River. Each canvas should feel as soft as sea fog.
