About the Artwork

This little one has clearly had a big day. Lennox Carver painted an elephant calf flat out on its side in the dry grass, legs stretched long, eyes closed, and trunk curled softly in front of its mouth. A sprig of green leaves rests by its face, the only cool note in a field of sand and wheat.

This elephant calf painting is done in a soft contemporary impressionist style. Loose strokes of cream, tan, and golden ochre build the savanna behind, while the calf gets careful lavender gray shading along its wrinkled skin, round feet, and floppy ear with its tiny dot of orange.

It's a hand painted nursery art piece for parents who want something calm and grown-up rather than cartoonish, and for anyone who loves elephants. It also makes a thoughtful baby shower gift that will still feel right when the child is older.

As nursery canvas wall art, it hangs beautifully above a crib, changing table, or reading chair, and pairs well with the rest of the Safari Nursery collection. The warm neutral palette also suits a playroom, bedroom, or hallway, wherever you want a quiet piece of canvas wall art.

Working on race cars for twelve years taught me precision, but a small chapel in rural Washington showed me grace. Now I paint the intersection of speed and stillness, finding sacred moments in everyday chaos.

It looks amazing! The material creates the look of natural texture, even without raised detail.
